League of Legends

OK, League of Legends is not DOTA so let's not go there please.  I've played both games (yup, been a DOTA player first) and League of Legends is my game at the moment. I found several elements and feature from this game that other MOBA games doesn't have and those things allow me to play my kind of game. So let's go for it, shall we?

Summoner who?

Players in this game are known as a "Summoner" who summons "Champions" or those characters you see battling with each other. Now as a Summoner, you get to use summoner-exclusive skills that you can unlock as your Summoner level goes up. The skills can be categorized as Offensive, Defensive and Utility skills.

Please refer to this list for the description.

Aside from the Summoner skills, you also get to customize your own Runes. Runes has four types: The Mark is best used for offense, Seals are best for physical defense, healing and recovery while Glyphs provide the highest boost for magical power and defense and the last is the Quintessences that grant a substantial bonus to any stat and special bonuses unavailable through other runes.

Read some more about the runes here.

Want to modify things some more to fit your playing style? Then let's move on to the Masteries. Like the summoner spells, you also get to earn mastery points as your summoner level goes up. They are organized into three bracket or trees: Offense, Defense and Utility. This makes things more flexible for you if you want your Champion to be well-rounded or you can also focus on stats and bonuses to amplify your character some more.

 Masteries details here.

The Champions of the League

Uh, I think I'll keep this brief because it will take me forever to discuss them one by one and including the role they play. AD Champions deal Physical damage while AP Champions deal Ability Power (Magic) damage. Tanks are, well, tanks and initializes the clash while Supports play as, you guessed it, support and Junglers are Champions who doesn't stay on a particular lane much as they sort of ganks different lanes to help other summoners who are being pressured by the opposing team.

Get details here.

What I like about the Champions here are their skins or costume that you can purchase to give them a more personalized touch whenever you play.  Now come on, don't be so bitter if you can't afford them. Publishers also need to earn some cash to help maintain their servers you know.

The Bragging Rights

And finally this! This is what I really like about this game, their Rank Matches. If you feel confident enough about your game, then it's time to go head to head with other players of the same skill level and battle your way among the League ranks. The higher your rank means the better you play (not 100% true for some though). Just don't suck when playing on the higher tier matches because trash talking and taunts are common here (Example: you're ranked Diamond 1 but you play like bronze 5.). They might say things like: "Hey, how much did pay for that account noob?", etc.

Well, that's about it for now. Just remember to visit League of Legends forums and similar sites for guides and strategies in-game. Lastly: Practice, practice and some more practice. Ciao!

Eclipse War Online--Magic Stormer Guide

Dangerous and Devastating wielder of magic that battles against their opponents in melee combat with fearsome high damage assaults and magical damage.  This class is quite similar to the Healer as they both uses magic-based skills to overcome obstacles in the world of Eclipse War Online. But compared to other melee characters in this game, the Magic Stormer focuses on dishing out devastating damage while cursing/de-buffing its opponents.

Let's now take a closer look on how to play this class. I will share to you guys a guide made by a friend of mine who played this class on the concluded Eclipse War Online Beta last month.

The Magic Stormer Skills

Wave of Desperate--Casts a curse of desperation on an enemy, dealing magical damage and Decreases 126 HP over 10 seconds.

Magical Pull--Pulls an enemy within a 22 meter radius and deals magical damage.

Vigilance--Health is given up to enter a stage of Vigilance. 165 HP is taken away and increases 90 physical and magical damages for 15 minutes.

Lessen Gravity--Increase your or your ally’s movement speed by 4 for 20 seconds.

Curse of Fear--Curses an enemy with fear dealing magical damage and decreasing their magical attack accuracy, critical and evasion by 24 for 30 seconds.

Magical Defense increase--Increase the magical defense by 80 permanently.

Swift Movement--Movement speed is permanently increase by 0.2.

Magical Attack Increase--Increase the magical attack by 20 permanently.

Fainting Attack--Attacks an enemy, dealing magical damage and stuns them for 2
Seconds.

Paralyzing Shock--Inflicts magical damage to an enemy and decreases the movement speed by 3 for 3 seconds.

Destruction--Attacks an enemy, dealing magical damage.

Total Absorption--Attacks an enemy with magical damage and decreases 138 HP and MP over 10 seconds.

Lava--Attacks an enemy with magical damage and increase max HP by 400 for 2 minutes.

Spell Obstruction--Deals magical damage to a single enemy in range. Target is unable to use any skill for 4 seconds.

Combat Seal--Silence an enemy’s basic attack and skills while dealing magical damage. The target is only able to move for 2 seconds.

Magic Hybrid Build

This build focuses on investing in the MAG (Magic) and INT (Intelligence) stats. A good selection of weapon should also be considered, thus, refining it to as high as possible to achieve the class’s maximum potential damage. Since the character only concentrates on dishing out massive damage, the cons will be on its low HP and defense. As a suggestion, you may put your extra stats on VIT (Vitality) and fill the character’s defense with high ranking and fully upgraded armors. You may also use a transformation card which is high in MAG and/or INT attribute as this will provide an extra boost to your damage.

Many thanks to Lawrence for providing us with this guide. We may see several changes within the game as Eclipse War Online is still on it's BETA phase. Until next time folks, I'll feature a few more guides here as soon as I get my friends to share what they have.

Eclipse War Online Character Class

On my last post I introduced the MMORPG Game Eclipse War Online and some of its features. Today I’ll talk about the classes available for players to choose from. I would also like to point out that these characters are gender-locked, meaning once you select a particular character you will not be able to change it's gender. Almost similar to a "Pre-Made" character.

The Warrior

What’s a fantasy game without a sword-wielding character? I think every MMORPG out there has this class. The Warrior for Eclipse War Online could fall into the sword-wielding character archetype as well. They excel in dealing huge physical damage while withstanding blows from multiple enemies. Aside from this, they also have skills that disable targets as well and this makes them good tanks or bruisers for a party. They charge ahead while other party members can chip away the HP of their opponent from afar.

I rate it:
Attack: 8/10
Defense:9/10
Magic: 3/10

The Magic Stormer

The Magic Stormer looks like an assassin from your typical RPG game. This class from Eclipse War, however, deals both physical and magical damage to enemies—but most of his skill are magic based. In a nutshell, the Magic Stormer is a melee character that deals magic damage. Kinda odd combination but hey, they still look cool. In a party, they are the ones tasked to dish out huge damage along with your warrior. If the warrior class has disables, this class has curse magic at their disposal.

I rate it:
Attack: 7/10
Defense:7/10
Magic: 9/10

The Healer

Don’t let the title name fool you. Yes they have a lot of healing spells to aid allies but they also have offensive spells that deals damage and adds negative buffs to targets. One could describe them as glass-cannons as they can deal massive amount of damage from a distance but they are the ones the rest of the party members has to look out for because they are squishy. Nonetheless, they are a crucial part of your group if you want to defeat boss monsters and other players on the field.

I rate it:
Attack: 3/10
Defense:5/10
Magic: 9/10

The Hunter

If the Healer class deals range magical damage, their counterpart is the Hunter. This class wields an advance hand cannon that deal tons of ranged physical damage to opponents. Along with their title, you can expect their skills to be more precise and accurate than the rest so it’s better to focus on damage and critical if you want to get the most from this class.

I rate it:
Attack: 8/10
Defense:6/10
Magic: 3/10

That’s it for now, guys. More to come as I venture this game some more. I’m also looking forward to their OBT period which is set on the later part of April. One of the update I saw on their Facebook page noted that players will now be able to select which Monster Transformation Card to take when they are creating their character.

I think I'll take this monster card when I play. He looks freaking awesome!

Ragnarok Online

Ragnarok Online is the very first MMORPG that I have ever played and I'm still playing this game to think that it was released more than 10 years ago. Up until now I'm still trying to think what got me so hooked into this game. Is it because of the cute 2.5D avatars? The engaging quests? Epic items? The War of Emperium? I don't know but one thing is for sure, I will still play this game be it from the official or private servers.

While I still ponder what made this game number 1 in my own personal list, let me just give a rundown on what I really loved about this gem.

A variety of Classes and Builds

Job classes are the things that you'll likely find in an MMORPG. You have your usual swordsman, archer, mage, thief and acolyte or healer. Then sooner or later you get to choose from one of their advance class: A knight, crusader, hunter, bard, dancer, wizard, sage , assassin, rouge, champion or a priest. But nobody said that a priest should only stick to healing. If my memory serves me right, my very first character is a battle priest. I did deviate from the usual Int+Vit+Dex build, instead I focused on Agi+Str+Luk. That's one thing that I liked about this game. It's like thinking outside the box, be a pioneer and try something new. And before long, I see other players making their own experiment as to what kind of character build will work for different situation and roles.

It defines "Massively Multiplayer" in MMORPG

I guess you guys have tried some other MMORPGs on the net and encountered what I describe as a "Ghost Town". When you try a new game it's fun at first but as you go along you wonder where are the other players at? Then it gets to a point where doing quests feels like as if it's a routine job that you need to do every time you log in--it's getting boring. Not in this game. I remember we got around 14,000 players on a single server at one point (I think it was the Chaos Server). The lag and delay is there but seeing 5-10 novices gank on a single Rocker or Hode is hilarious.

Let's Party!

Tired of chatting with other players? Then organize a party and do dungeon runs or hunt MVP monsters. Or you guys can visit the Endless Tower and see if your party can clear all 100 floors--and share epic loots afterwards. I find it easier to look for a party in this game and it doesn't matter if you're a total stranger. As long as you're nice and helpful and can carry your own weight, you're good to go. Your group can even participate on PVP arenas like the Battlegrounds to earn badges that you can later exchange for gears.

Items for Bragging rights

Who doesn't want to show off that +10 Very Very Strong Fire Knife and the infamous +7 Triple Vital Falchion that Pritong Kandule uses? OK, just kidding. But seriously every once in a while, you feel like flaunting your hard-earned gears right? I noticed that female players of this game usually has a huge collection of headgear and other vanity-related stuff. This adds some sort of a "replay value" for this game and gets other players stared on doing headgear quests. For those tough and strong players, they showcase their collection of rare cards from all sorts of monsters and some parade their rare pets along with them.

Look at all those goodies!

Talk about a rare card!

The War of Emperium

Oh yeah! I still remember logging in every Wednesday and Saturday for this in-game event. This is where we get to clash against other guilds and try to get an Agit (a Guild Castle of sorts) of our own. I believe this is one of the major reasons why players are hooked into this game. They even have a World Championship event that pits top guilds of several countries against each other for the prized title of being the strongest and the best. Ah, nostalgia. The good-old-days of Ragnarok Online.

I think I could go on and on talking about my experiences from this game but If you haven't played Ragnarok Online yet, I definitely suggest you give it a try. They have a number of servers all over the globe so it's your choice if you want to play on the official and private servers. If you don't have much time to spare then I would suggest you try the private servers where exp and item drop rate are modified to save yourself from grinding. Well, that's it for now. Rock on, people!
